Democrats Honoring Our Nation’s Veterans June 7, 2007

Last week, the House passed a defense bill that give our troops a pay raise, and improves survivor benefits. A House Appropriations Subcommittee approved the Veterans Administration spending bill yesterday, and the House approved a series of bills today to strengthen veterans care and benefits. Also pending is veterans healthcare funding in the emergency war supplemental. The President and the previous Republican-controlled Congress have shortchanged our veterans for too long. As we approach Memorial Day, Democrats have continued to demonstrate their commitment to our nation’s veterans.

The House Appropriations Committee yesterday approved the largest increase in funding for the Veterans Administration in the agency’s 77 year history. This is the first time the requests of the major veterans’ service organizations have been met, it is action that is long overdue…
